Director of Marketing and Communications

Hillel Ontario’s inaugural dedicated and creative Director of Marketing and Communications has strong written and verbal communication skills, advanced graphic design capabilities and savvy technical abilities. He/she will develop and execute a comprehensive and integrated marketing and communications strategy that meets the strategic objectives of Hillel Ontario. The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of marketing theory and practice coupled with effective project management, organization, multi-tasking, time management and strong interpersonal skills to provide supervision and management to four F/T professionals in the Department and support the organization’s strategic vision. Our ideal leader is someone who provides creative leadership, understands all aspects of marketing, target audience demographics, digital media, and can contribute to developing and managing brand strategies. We are seeking a candidate who will be proficient in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Final Cut, etc) and eager to learn new skills as they relate to Hillel’s CRM and email management systems. A leader who will be responsible for the ongoing evolution and consistency of Hillel’s brand guidelines, providing all art direction and strategy for communications and work collaboratively with senior management.

Reports To: Chief Strategy Officer

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a multi-year marketing and communications strategy including budget and timelines.

  • Ensure that all campus and organizational messaging, and all collateral materials, are on brand, of the highest quality demonstrating the most current design trends and aligned with the organizational goals.

  • Work with organizational partners when necessary on co-branded and partnered projects

  • Create new opportunities to increase Hillel’s visibility and brand value across all channels to key target audiences (current and prospective students, parents and donors and other community stakeholders and partners)

  • Oversee the utilization and evaluation of new and existing digital technologies and ensure a vibrant, relevant and engaging social media presence and content

  • Utilize data analytics to make strategic and data-driven decisions.

  • Responsible for supervising Marketing and Communications staff, ensuring a culture of personal growth and development as reflected in mid year and annual performance reviews

  • Write, edit and design weekly, bi-monthly and other newsletters in Mailchimp

  • Oversee and manage website redesign and launch

  • Maintain and enforce brand guidelines and Hillel’s commitment to excellence in communications

What you bring to the job

  • 3- 5 years of experience in managing comprehensive strategic marketing and communications, media relations, and marketing programs to advance an organization's mission and goals

  • Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of marketing and communications specialists.

  • Fluency in graphic design with a strong portfolio demonstrating knowledge of typography, best practices in design and foundations, and Adobe suite.

  •  Excellent web design and development is essential, with knowledge of online platforms (i.e. Wordpress, etc.)

  • Ability to translate complex information into easily-understood, beautiful visual formats.

  • Ability to understand overarching strategy while maintaining focus on details.

  • Understanding of content marketing tactics, digital advertising and social media marketing and web traffic metrics

  • Experience working in a Mac environment an asset.

  • Previous experience with a non-profit and with the Toronto Jewish community is an asset.

The organization has a centralized Marketing and Communications department that supports all of the design and communication needs of each individual campus, as well as larger, strategic and development initiatives of Hillel Ontario as a regional system. Hillel Ontario has been on an accelerated growth trajectory since its inception, which has resulted in an increase in both the volume and complexity of communication projects and needs to support multiple and diverse marketing channels.
